Tucson’s Stellar Craft Beer Scene

Home to more than twenty local breweries, Tucson is a craft beer-lover’s dream! Here are five of the top breweries in town that serve exceptional beer and provide a great ambience for hanging with friends or enjoying a brew solo.

Pueblo Vida Brewing Co.

If you love IPAs — especially hazy IPAs — Pueblo Vida is a must-visit brewery. In addition to hoppy brews, they have a weekly rotating taproom menu that includes sours, as well as light and dark beer options. Located in downtown on Broadway at 6th Ave., their taproom is a relaxed and unpretentious spot to enjoy a beer or two any day of the week.

Dragoon Brewing Company

Dragoon’s delicious self titled West Coast IPA is so well distributed across town that you can likely find it at most bars in Tucson, but their taproom is a great place to check out their other flavorful options. It’s off the beaten path a bit, just west of I-10 off of Grant Rd., but the hospitality is superb and there’s often a food truck out front to grab a bite to eat.

Borderlands Brewing Co.

Located on Toole between 6th and Stone Ave., Borderlands has one of the best patios in Tucson and is the ideal place to enjoy our seasonally perfect weather. In addition to an awesome variety of beers, they also serve margaritas, Micheladas, and boozy kombuchas. And Borderlands hosts a number of fun events, features live music, and even serves a “beer” for dogs.

UPDATE 1/30/23: As of January, Borderlands now has a second location in the Sam Hughes neighborhood, at the corner of Tucson Blvd. and 6th St. This new taproom also serves food, with a menu curated by Boca’s Maria Mazon, of Top Chef fame.

Barrio Brewing Co.

Not only is Barrio the oldest brewery in Arizona, but it’s also entirely employee owned, making the beer they produce a true ode to Tucson, through and through. Located in the industrial-district of downtown Tucson, the space itself is large and filled with eclectic decor and knick knacks, has an extensive food menu, and is a great spot to catch a game.

MotoSonora Brewery

One of Tucson’s newer breweries, this road trip-themed spot has already made a big name for itself! MotoSonora is located southeast of downtown, on South Park Avenue, and is a hotspot for car and motorcycle enthusiasts. In addition to a variety of quality beers and great indoor and outdoor seating, MotoSonora also hosts Substance Diner, a plant-based diner-style food truck with tasty food for vegan’s and omnivore’s alike.
