After three decades, the Bookmans at Grant & Campbell was torn down and this giant wall sat blank and empty for two years.

Throughout my life I’ve seen so many businesses come and go, with buildings sitting empty and void of the joy that once filled them. When the Sky Islands mural was completed by local legend, Joe Pagac, it brightened a corner that had once seen better days. Although Tucson has made significant strides in the past decade, its economic history hasn’t always been so promising. But what we’ve always had is plenty of creativity and community, which brings so many people to Tucson or back from elsewhere. This mural, and the many murals that dot this eclectic city, remind me of what a cool place it is to call home.
